RIGHTS / TRANSPARENCY
What “HIPC holds the rights” means
For every covered song, recording, performance, artwork or other asset, the rights file should identify the creator, the rights holder, the scope of the grant, territory, duration, permitted uses, revenue terms and the document that supports the grant. HIPC's internal register records those details; it is not a substitute for the signed agreement or proof of a transfer that never occurred.
Where ownership has been validly transferred to HIPC, HIPC is the rights holder within that documented scope. Where an artist or third party has instead licensed specific rights, those rights remain subject to the license and its limits. HIPC does not claim rights in a work merely because it appears in a catalog or database.
